Risk Factors for Breast Cancer
|
- Current age 65 years or older
- Menarche before age 12
- Menopause after age 55
- No pregnancies or first pregnancy after age
30
- Alcohol consumption greater than two
drinks per day
- Body mass index in the 80th percentile or
55 years or older
- Exposure to high dose ionizing radiation
- Family history of first or second degree
relatives with breast cancer
- BRCA1 or 2 genetic mutation
- Hormone replacement greater than 5 years
with combined estrogen and progesterone
- About 18% of new cases of breast cancer
occur among women in their 40s
- 77% of women with breast cancer are older
than 50 years at diagnosis
- 2/3 of breast cancers have receptors to
estrogen and progesterone (ER+ and PR+)
- 1 in 8 women who live to the age of 90 will
be treated for breast cancer in their lifetime
