Polyps are meaty projections of tissue
from the inner lining of the uterine
cavity.  Their surface is often covered
with small blood vessels, which may
cause irregular bleeding
Fibroids are smooth muscle tumors
that grow in the wall of the uterus.
Symptoms depend on where they are
located in the wall, and include pain,
bleeding, and mass effect.
Fibroids may be single or multiple and
range in size from a few millimeters to
several pounds.
Rarely, fibroids may interfere with
fertility or childbirth and need to be
removed.
Treatment depends on symptoms and
by themselves leaving the uterus

Endometriosis has been found
everywhere, from the abdominal lining
to the nasal passages.
Adenomyosis is a special case of
endometriosis that resides within the
muscle of the uterus itself, deeper than
normal endometrium.  It causes severe
pain and heavy bleeding, and the
uterus may be enlarged and boggy.
increased lining of the endometrial
cavity.  The cells proliferate at a
greater rate than usual, sometimes out
of control.  In a graded fashion,
hyperplasia may be a precursor to
endometrial cancer.
Endometrial cancer is a malignancy
that arises in the lining of the uterus.
Because it is a cancer, it can spread to
other organs, or metastasize.
Generally it is diagnosed at an early
stage because it causes bleeding
when none is expected.
Other medical conditions or
circumstances can cause abnormal
bleeding, including the list at the left.
worrying possible causes are
hyperplasia and cancer, and those can
usually be tested by a simple biopsy in
the office or operating room.
